Volleyball 2024 season recap

ATLANTA – Head Coach Olivia Tidmore wrapped her second season with the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels, showing improvements on a team and individual player level.

Oglethorpe opened the season by hosting a tournament, and picked up a 3-0 win against Piedmont and a 3-1 win over Wilmington. Southern Athletic Association play began early with a match at Berry, a tough loss for the Petrels, but Oglethorpe found victories against Sewanee, Hendrix and Rhodes. As the regular season ended, Oglethorpe put up one set against No. 14 Washington and Lee, then a 3-1 win against Randolph-Macon.

Oglethorpe fell 3-2 to Rhodes in the first round of the SAA tournament, ending their season.

Award Winners

Individual Leaders

  • Kohler led the team in kills with 316 and ranked sixth in the SAA. She also recorded 227 digs and 23 blocks.
  • Sims made 285 kills and 22 blocks.
  • Lilly led the Petrels in service aces with 38 and ranked fifth in the SAA. She also recorded 158 digs and 484 assists.
  • Gabbi Phillips made 171 digs and 30 service aces.
  • Legacy Guider led Oglethorpe in digs at 453. She also made 87 assists and 28 service aces.
  • Madison Williams led the team in blocks with 60. She also made 132 kills.
  • Camdyn George 26 service aces and 47 blocks.
  • Ashlynn Stephens recorded 199 kills, 106 digs and 30 blocks.
  • Allie Sierra made 108 digs.
  • Laney Higgins had 94 digs.

Season Notes

  • Record: 13-16 (5-7 SAA)
  • Four Petrels made their collegiate debut: Lauryn Frazier, Aubrey Hill, Symantha Lewis, and Abby Wheeler.
  • Sims and Williams made their Oglethorpe debuts, transferring from Birmingham Southern.
  • The team graduated three seniors: Guider, Kohler, and Phillips.
  • Alumnae Ellie Alfonso and Kylee Zimmer served as assistant coaches.
  • Oglethorpe faced Wittenberg and Catholic University for the first time.
  • The Petrels played Guilford for the first time since 2008, maintaining a clean record at 3-0.
  • Oglethorpe faced Bridgewater for the first time since 1994.
