ATLANTA - Head Coach Jon Akin wrapped his 23rd season with the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels after a tough schedule that brought many ups and downs.
The season began at Emory's Sonny Carter Invitational, which included a loss to Covenant but a 1-1 tie with No. 4 Washington and Lee. The Stormy Petrels picked up their first win with their home opener against Huntingdon, then split the John P. Salamone Invitational.Â
Southern Athletic Association play was tough this year, especially with the addition of No. 6 Trinity and No. 14 Southwestern, the former ultimately advancing to the national final where it was four seconds away from winning the NCAA title. Oglethorpe played the two nationally ranked newcomers to 2-1 and 1-0 losses, respectively.
Oglethorpe did pick up wins against Millsaps and Rhodes, then finished the regular season with a 0-0 draw at Berry. The Petrels faced Berry again in the first round of the SAA tournament, but this time fell 3-1.
