ATLANTA—Oglethorpe junior Jackson Hiller co-medaled at this week's Gate City Invitational and for his efforts also was co-named Southern Athletic Association men's golf athlete of the week. This marked the third such honor of Hiller's career, after winning it twice last fall.
Hiller posted three competitive rounds of 72-68-70, all enough to solidify him a share of the top spot at the prestigious event that featured many of the nation's top-25 teams. His middle round of 4 under combined with the rest of the No. 6 Stormy Petrel squad to produce one of the best team rounds in program history at 15 under par. His 14 birdies led the field, and he also ranked fifth for par 4 scoring at 2 under.
Hiller, the SAA co-newcomer of the year two years ago and the West Pines Collegiate solo medalist last year, finished the Gate City event 6 under par and tied with three others atop the individual leaderboard.
Hiller and the No. 6 Stormy Petrels head to Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, at the start of next week for the NCAA National Championships Preview. The 54-hole event is set for Sunday-Tuesday, Sept. 21-23, and will feature 23 of the top 26 teams from the final 2024-25 national poll.
