Petrels break multiple records at Samford, Music City

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.— The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels traveled split squads to Tennessee and Alabama to compete in the Music City Challenge and Bulldog Invite as they continued building momentum for the 2025–2026 indoor season. The meets proved to be a breakthrough weekend for the Petrels, highlighted by multiple school records and personal bests that signal strong progress heading into championship season.

Men's Highlights (Music City)

  • Zachary Benner set a new school record in the 5000m with a time of 14:51.47.
  • Philmon Laudat recorded two personal bests, running 22.81 in the 200m and 50.44 in the 400m.
  • Zeno Goss added a strong performance of his own, clocking a personal best of 1:53.71.

Men's Highlights (Samford)

  • Jordan McQueen led the Petrels with a fifth-place finish in the long jump and set a new school record in the triple jump with a leap of 13.92 meters.
  • Brandon Large recorded a personal best in the 400m, crossing the line in 55.09.
  • Josh Barfield posted a PR of 8.93 in the 60m dash.
  • Mason O'Shields also earned a personal best in the 60m, clocking 7.56.

Women's Highlights (Music City)

  • Kirsten Rose posted a school record and personal best in the mile, finishing in 5:19.49.
  • Hannah Rhodes followed with a school record and PR in the 3000m, crossing the line in 10:46.33.
  • Allyssa Hearn also competed in the 3000m, earning a personal best of 11:11.52.

Women's Highlights (Samford)

  • Amirah Ali led the women's side with a fifth-place finish in the triple jump, marking 10.77 meters.
  • Keri Edwards followed closely with a sixth-place finish in the triple jump at 10.75 meters.
  • Hailey Wright placed eighth in the long jump with a leap of 5.13 meters.
  • Mia Harris recorded a personal best of 8.36 meters in the shot put.
  • Evan Thomas finished eighth in the 400m with a time of 59.76.
