LA CROSSE, Wis.—Oglethorpe freshman Zeno Goss capped his outstanding debut season with a 17th-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships Friday afternoon at Veteran's Memorial Field Sports Complex. Goss ran 1:51.95 in the 800 meters to secure the Stormy Petrels' second top-20 national finish of the year.
The school record holder in the outdoor 800 meters and an all-SAA honoree for both the indoor and outdoor 800 meters, Goss had plenty to write home about from his freshman campaign after the Southern Athletic Association Championships four weeks ago. Instead, he put one final touch on the season with an NCAA qualifier during his last window of opportunity on the way to securing the top-20 national finish.
Goss ran in the first heat and landed sixth in 1:51.95. His time was just over a second shy of qualifying for the final but marked his fourth time this season running the 800 meters under 1:52. His time was second among freshmen in the event.
Goss follows Keri Edwards as this year's second NCAA qualifier. Edwards qualified in the triple jump during indoor season and earned a spot as an all-American.
