Box Score The Oglethorpe University men's basketball team defeated
Piedmont College in Demorest, Georgia on Tuesday night, 83-69. The
Petrels were lifted by the spirited play of their bench who managed
to tally 47 points amongst them in the road victory.
After the teams went back and forth in the early going
Oglethorpe took a lead over the Lions midway through the first half
and would never look back. The Petrels held a 37-33 edge at
halftime and, after the Lions got the first bucket of the second
half, Oglethorpe responded with a three-pointer of their own and
Piedmont got no closer than within 5 points the rest of the
game.
The reserve players showed their continued development by
stepping onto the floor and lifting Oglethorpe to the win with
their 47 combined points. Andrew Steioff led all Petrels in scoring
with 13 points on a near-perfect 6 of 7 shooting performance. Alec
Pitts recorded 12 points and E.C. Williams posted 10 points and 5
steals for the Petrels. Also coming off the bench, Joe Kennedy
poured in 9 to go along with a team-high 6 assists. Starters Wade
Weldon and Todd Ward rounded out the Petrels in double-figures with
12 and 10 points respectively.
Oglethorpe shot 52% (33-64) from the field, held the Lions to
only 37% (23-63) from the field and out rebounded Piedmont
41-33 en route to the victory.
The Petrels are now 14-10 on the season and will complete
regular season play this Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. against
Sewanee on Pinholster Court.
