Box Score The men's soccer season got underway on Salamone Field today as
Oglethorpe and Reinhardt played to a spirited 1-1 tie to start the
season.
The teams used the first half to sort one another out before the
offensive fireworks got going in the second stanza. After the 0-0
first half came to a close, Reinhardt drew first blood by netting
an unassisted goal from Mark Withers in the game's 55th
minute.
The Petrels spent the next 15 minutes battling for the equalizer
when Reinhardt's Jack Coulton received his second yellow of the
game to be disqualified and give Oglethorpe a man advantage. Less
than a minute later, it paid off as freshman Nick Williamson found
Nathan Post whose high cross beat Eagles keeper to know the
score.
Oglethorpe mustered several late chances against an Eagles squad
that was holding on for dear life but the Petrels could not break
through for the game winner and the contest finished in a 1-1
tie.
Oglethorpe outshot Reinhardt 10-9 in the match and held a 6-5
advantage in corners taken.
The Petrels are back in action this Saturday as the participate
in the Sonny Carter Invitational at Emory Univerisity. Oglethorpe
faces Hampden Sydney at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday and Illinois Wesleyan
at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday.
