Box Score The men's lacrosse team opened play on the Salamone Field against stout competition on Wednesday afternoon and lost to Carthage College, 22-3. The Redmen proved why they're an undefeated 6-0 on the season by streaking to a 12-0 halftime lead and outshooting Oglethorpe 62-17 in the convincing win.
Carthage had scored more than 20 goals in three of their previous five victories and were winning by an average of over 15 goals a game so it was no surprise that the Petrels would have their hands full on this sunny afternoon.
Oglethorpe held tough in the first period, only trailing the Redmen 3-0 with less than a minute to play before a late strike by Carthage's Mike Upshaw ignited a flurry of second quarter goals from which the Petrels could not recover.
The Redmen eventually extended their advantage to 15-0 in the third quarter before Arness Holsey tallied the first Petrel goal on Salamone Field with 3:12 remaining in the period. Michael Kasmarik added a goal of his own moments later and Holsey notched the final Oglethorpe goal in the fourth quarter to cap the Petrel scoring.
Oglethorpe is now 1-2 on the season and will have a chance to score a conference victory this weekend when they face Hendrix on Friday at 3:30 p.m. and Millsaps on Sunday at noon. Both games take place on Salamone Field.
