Hawks Nip Petrels on Salamone Field

Box Score

For the thrid straight game the men's lacrosse team saw a first quarter lead evaporate as the Huntingdon Hawks rallied to top the Petrels 14-10 on Wednesday afternoon. Like they had against Rhodes and Millsaps last weekend, the Petrels jumped on top but could not hold the lead.

The two teams alternated goals at the onset with the Petrels' Coleman Plaisted netting a hat trick among Oglethorpe's first four goals to lead the way. After Plaisted's third tally with 9:04 remaining in the second quarter the score was knotted at 4 apiece.

Arness Holsey and Michael Kasmarik rattled off the next two goals to give Oglethorpe a 6-4 lead which ultimately stood at 6-5 heading into halftime.

The Hawks then scored the first four goals of the second half to take control. Holsey struck two more times to narrow the margin to 10-8 but Huntingdon closed out the game on a 4-2 scoring run to claim the victory.

The Petrels are now 1-11 on the season and will close out the 2012 campaign with home contests this weekend versus Sewanee (Friday at 3:30 p.m.) and Centre (Sunday at 1:00 p.m.).
