The men's lacrosse team hung tough with Sewanee on Salamone Field on Friday afternoon before ultimately losing by the score of 13-5. The Tigers entered the day with the 3rd best record in the SCAC and raced out to a 7-1 lead. From there the Petrels battled hard, and scored even with the Tigers 2-2 in the 4th quarter.

Sewanee netted the first two goals of the contest before Oglethorpe broke the ice with an incredible, over-the-shoulder strike from junior Michael Kasmarik. The Tigers, however, would rattle off the next 5 goals to open up a 7-1 lead and seemingly take control of the game. After freshman Nick Pizzo raced the length of the field for a goal, the Petrels headed into halftime trailing the Tigers 8-2.

The Petrels got the first tally of the third quarter when Kasmarik found the back of the net yet again to make it 8-3. Sewanee reeled off the next four strikes to put the game away, but not before the Petrels showed some spunk by scoring two straigh of their own to finish 2-2 in the fourth.

John Brewer excelled in net for the Petrels with 19 saves on the day. In addition to Kasmarik's two goals, Maseo Brown added one of his own to lead Oglethorpe offensively. The Petrels also got tallies from Pizzo and Arness Holsey to round out the scoring.

Oglethorpe will close the 2012 season this Sunday when they square off with Centre College at 1 p.m. on Salamone Field.
