Lady Petrels Lose 1-0 to Sewanee in Hard-Fought Game

Box Score

The Oglethorpe women's soccer team lost to Sewanee 1-0 Saturday in the SAA Campus Kickoff game, the first SAA contest in school history.

Sewanee scored the only goal of the game in just the sixth minute, which was part of a dominating first 10 minutes for the visiting Tigers. From that point, Oglethorpe played them pretty much evenly, but was unable to score the equalizing goal. Sewanee outshot the Petrels 19-10, but only 8-5 in the second half.

Oglethorpe goalkeeper Bailey Evans, filling in for the injured Sarah Craig, had an excellent day in goal. She stopped nine of the 10 shots she faced, many of them on acrobactic saves.

The loss drops the Lady Petrels to 2-5 on the season and they are now 0-1 in SAA play. The Petrels will next be in action on Wednesday, when they will travel to Montgomery, Ala., to take on Huntingdon.
