Women's Soccer Falls at Home, 5-0

An undermanned Oglethorpe women's soccer team hung in for a large portion of the game against first-place Centre Saturday afternoon on a wet Salamone Field. However, Centre pulled away toward the end and prevailed, 5-0.

Centre scored in the ninth minute to go ahead 1-0, but the Petrels held strong for a large portion of the remainder of the half. Centre scored the second goal in the 41st minute to go up 2-0.

Then in the second half, the Colonels began to pull away. They picked up goals in the 57th and 62nd minutes, then converted a penalty kick in the 73rd for the final scoreline.

Centre laid siege to the Oglethorpe goal, firing 34 shots to the Petrels' eight. Centre outshot Oglethorpe 20-3 in shots on goal. Oglethorpe sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Craig made an amazing 14 saves on the 18 shots on goal she faced. Centre also took nine corner kicks to Oglethorpe's none.

The Petrels fall to 5-7-1 on the season, 0-4 in SAA play. They'll get right back at it on Tuesday when they welcome Bob Jones to Salamone Field at 4 p.m.
