Women's Soccer Falls to Birmingham-Southern

The Oglethorpe women's soccer team lost 5-0 to Birmingham-Southern Friday afternoon, falling to 5-9-1, 0-5 in SAA play. 

The Petrels fell behind 1-0 in the 18th minute, but held pretty well defensively for most of the first half. However, they allowed two penalty kicks late in the half and the visiting Panthers scored on one of them in the 39th minute for a 2-0 lead.

In the second half, Birmingham-Southern tallied three more goals and pulled away for a 5-0 victory.

Oglethorpe sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Craig perfomed well in the game, despite her goal being under siege. She recorded an impressive 10 saves on the afternoon for the Petrels. Oglethorpe was outshot 29-3 on the day, including 16-1 on goal. Meanwhile, the visiting Panthers took five corner kicks to Oglethorpe's none.

The Petrels will try to get back on track Sunday when they take on Millsaps at 12:30 p.m. at Salamone Field. They will then close the regular season with a contest against Berry next Saturday before heading to the SAA Tournament in Birmingham, Ala.
