The Oglethorpe women's soccer team brought home its first SAA win of the season Sunday afternoon at Salamone Field, defeating Millsaps 2-1 in a game while featured a two-goal performance from freshman forward Beatrice Menjor.

After Millsaps took a first minute lead, the Petrels went to work. Menjor's first goal came in the 18th minute, as she picked up a loose ball in the box, dribbled to her left and then fired a sizzling off-balance shot into the upper left corner of the net. She wasn't done yet, though.

With a 1-1 halftime scoreline, the Petrels almost immediately grabbed the initiative in the second. In the 47th minute, sophomore midfielder Claire Stauber sent a ball down the left side that pulled the Major goalkeeper off her line. Menjor ran onto the ball on the far left side of the field and fired a pinpoint long-range shot over several defenders into the empty net for her second goal, giving the Petrels a 2-1 lead. The goals were her seventh and eighth of the season.

From there, the Petrels withstood a second-half barrage. Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Craig made 11 saves over the course of the game, including several huge ones late to maintain the one-goal advantage. The Petrels were outshot 16-11 for the game, including 12-6 on goal, but they held on for the 2-1 victory.

The win improves the squad to 6-9-1 on the season, 1-5 in SAA play. With the win, they move ahead of Millsaps into seventh place in the SAA standings. The Petrels conclude their regular season at Salamone Field on Saturday, when they take on Berry at 12:30 p.m.
