Box Score The Oglethorpe women's soccer team fell behind early and were never able to work their way back into the game in an 8-0 loss to Sewanee in Saturday's SAA opener in Sewanee, Tenn.
The Petrels fell behind 2-0 in the first 21 minutes of the game and carried that same deficit into the halftime break. Things fell apart for Oglethorpe in the second half, though, as they gave up six goals in the half, including three in the first 12 minutes. These goals allowed Sewanee to easily cruise to the eight-goal victory.
The home-standing Tigers outshot the Petrels 26-3 for the game, including 17-2 in shots on goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper Bailey Evans fought valiantly, as her goal was under siege for the majority of the game. She recorded eight saves on the day.
The Petrels drop to 5-4 on the season, 0-1 in SAA play. They return to Salamone Field midweek to take on Tennessee Temple in a non-conference matchup. The proceedings will get started at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. Next weekend, they embark on a two-game SAA road trip, their only one of the season. They take on Rhodes on Friday afternoon, then Hendrix on Sunday.
