Box Score The Oglethorpe women's soccer team fell to Berry on Senior Day at Salamone Field Saturday afternoon, losing to the visiting Vikings 5-1.
The Petrels fell behind, 1-0, in the 10th minute of the game, but held on for the remainder of the first half, entering the halftime break down 1-0.
The squad started off the second half well, as freshman forward Beatrice Menjor collected a long pass from sophomore midfielder Claire Stauber in the box, turned, and fired a hard shot past the goalkeeper to tie the game 1-1 in the 48th minute. It was Menjor's ninth goal of the season.
However, the Vikings took the lead back in the 60th minute and never relinquished it, and scored three goals in the span of three-and-a-half minutes starting in the 69th, putting the game away.
The Vikings outshot the Petrels by a substantial 38-8 margin, including 21-3 on goal. Berry also attempted four corner kicks to Oglethorpe's one.
With her goal under siege, sophomore Sarah Craig performed admirably, stopping 15 shots and keeping Oglethorpe in the game through the first 70 minutes.
The afternoon marked Senior Day for the Stormy Petrel soccer program, and the squad celebrated the careers of forward Clara St. Urbain, midfielder Lexie Craig, defender Lisanne Edelman, defender Katie Muller, midfielder Aubrie Provence and defender Spenser Knauss.
With the loss, the team falls to 6-10-1 on the season, 1-6 in SAA play. With Millsaps' loss to Birmingham-Southern, the Petrels secure seventh place in the conference and will face off against the No. 2 seed in next weekend's SAA Tournament quarterfinals in Birmingham, Ala. The No. 2 seed is a familiar opponent, as the Petrels will be taking on Berry for the second consecutive game.
