Women's Soccer Ends Season with SAA Quarterfinal Loss to Berry

Box Score

The Oglethorpe women's soccer team saw their season come to an end Friday evening in Birmingham, Ala., as they fell to No. 2 seeded Berry in the SAA quarterfinals, 4-0.

The game remained scoreless through the opening 20 minutes, but Berry struck in the 25th to take a 1-0 lead, then added two more in the 35th and 40th minutes. After holding a 3-0 halftime lead, Berry again tallied off a corner kick in the 64th minute to put the game away.

The Petrels only managed two shots for the game, one of which was on goal. By contrast, Berry fired 24 shots and put 14 of them on goal. Berry took three corner kicks to Oglethorpe's none, as well.

Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Craig did her best, coming up with 10 saves on the evening. It would not be enough, however.

Senior midfielder Lexie Craig earned a position on the SAA All-Tournament Team with her performance in the center of the park during the game.

The Petrels finish the season with a 6-11-1 record and a seventh-place finish in the SAA. Though they graduate six seniors, a solid core of young players will be back for the next couple years, as there were no juniors on this year's squad.
