Box Score The Oglethorpe women's soccer team went down to defeat, 8-1, at home on Salamone Field Sunday afternoon.
The Stormy Petrels fell behind early and never really recovered in this one. The visiting Scots scored three goals in the first half-hour, putting the Petrels behind the eight-ball right away.
The Petrels did get a goal back very early in the second half, giving them a momentary chance to come back in the game. Sophomore midfielder Claire Stauber collected a partially cleared corner kick and rocketed a shot past the Maryville goalkeeper to bring the Petrels back to within two goals, 3-1.
However, the visitors pretty much put the game away with a goal in the 63rd minute. They then scored three more goals in a seven-minute span, culminating in their seventh goal of the game at the 78-minute mark. They would add on another one before the end for the final scoreline.
The Petrels were outshot by a 22-9 margin in the game, including 15-5 on goal. Additionally, the visitors enjoyed eight corner kicks to Oglethorpe's five.
Stauber's goal was her second of the season. All three Petrel goalkeepers played in this one, sophomores Sarah Craig and Bailey Evans coming up with three saves each.
The 2-3 Petrels will next be in action on Thursday evening, when they travel across town to take on Agnes Scott at 5 p.m.
