Box Score The Oglehtorpe men's soccer team suffered its second loss of the year Friday night, falling to Guilford, 2-1, in Greensboro, N.C.
The home-standing Quakers jumped out to an early lead, as they scored the only goal of the first half in the 31st minute. They then doubled their lead in the 56th minute.
The Petrels found themselves down 2-0 and were staring an 0-2 start to their season in the face. They mounted a rally, as freshman midfielder Austin Graham scored the first goal of his collegiate career off an assist from senior forward Nick Williamson in the 78th minute. They then laid seige to the Guilford goal for the final 10 minutes, but were unable to find the back of the net.
The Petrels outplayed the Quakers in most offensive categories. They outshot their opponents 18-6, including 8-4 on goal. The Petrels also took nine corner kicks to their opponents' three over the course of the game. However, the Petrels were unable to turn the statistical advantage into goals.
Graham fired two shots in the game, both of the on target. Meanwhile, sophomore forward Nick Muntean shot four times and put one on target.
The 0-2 Petrels will continue their weekend trip on Sunday in Danville, Va. There they will take on Averett at 1 p.m.
