Women's Soccer Falls to Sewanee, 3-0, in Lightning-Delayed Affair

Box Score

The Oglethorpe women's soccer team fell to Sewanee, 3-0, Saturday in a game that was delayed multiple times due to lightning in the area.

The game was delayed 15 minutes by lightning at the outset, which was followed by another delay with just under 10 minutes left in the first half, this one 45 minutes in length.

Despite the delays, Sewanee was able to take a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute. They would take that lead into the halftime break. In the second half, the Stormy Petrels held their own for large portions of the period. Junior goalkeeper Bailey Evans kept Oglethorpe in the game, stopping six Tigers shots. However, Sewanee doubled their lead in the 75th minute, then put the game away in the 85th.

The Tigers outshot the Petrels over the course of the game, 28-7, including 13-1 on goal. Sewanee took a pair of corner kicks to Oglethorpe's one. Meanwhile, the duo of Oglethorpe goalkeepers recorded 10 saves on the afternoon. In addition to Evans' six, junior Sarah Craig got the start and recorded four saves.

With the loss, the Petrels fall to 3-7 on the season, 0-2 in SAA play. They'll go back on the road next weekend, as they travel to Birmingham, Ala., on Friday to take on Birmingham-Southern at 8:30 p.m. Eastern time. Their road trip will continue next Sunday in Jackson, Miss., where they'll battle Millsaps at 2 p.m. Eastern time.
