Box Score The Oglethorpe women's soccer team fell at Birmingham-Southern, 2-0, on Friday evening in Birmingham, Ala. They held strong against an onslaught by the home-standing Panthers for much of the game, but Birmingham-Southern picked up the goals they needed to win in the end.
Birmingham-Southern outshot the Stormy Petrels, 29-1, over the course of the game, putting 10 of those shots on goal. In addition, they took 11 corners to Oglethorpe's none. Despite this, the Petrels kept it a scoreless tie through most of the first 60 minutes, getting excellent goalkeeping from juniors Sarah Craig and Bailey Evans. Craig stopped five shots in the first half, then Evans came on in the second and stopped three shots of her own.
However, the Panthers were able to take the lead in the game's 59th minute. They held a 1-0 lead until the 81st minute, when they doubled their advantage. From there, they were able to take their 2-0 lead home.
The loss drops Oglethorpe to 3-8 on the season, 0-3 in SAA play. They will now continue their two-game road trip with a visit to Jackson, Miss., where they'll take on Millsaps at 2 p.m. Eastern time on Sunday.
