Women's Soccer Drops Home Game to Rhodes, 4-0

Box Score

The Oglethorpe women's soccer team fell to visiting Rhodes Friday afternoon at Salamone Field, 4-0. The Stormy Petrels stayed in the game for the entirety of the first half, turning back numerous Rhodes attacks. However, Rhodes was able to put the game away in the second.

The Petrels gave up a goal in the 10th minute to fall behind, 1-0, but otherwise were able to stem the Rhodes tide and maintain the single-goal disadvantage into the halftime break despite being outshot 10-1 over the course of the period.

In the second half, however, Rhodes was able to take advantage of their edge in shots and score three goals, putting the game away. They picked up their second goal in the 50th minute, then pushed it out to a three-goal advantage in the 54th minute. The Lynx completed the scoring with their fourth goal of the game in the 66th minute.

For the game, Rhodes outshot Oglethorpe 22-5, including 13-3 on goal. The Petrels did pick up a total of nine saves spread across their three goalkeepers: juniors Sarah Craig, Bailey Evans and Caitlin Hollis. Freshman midfielder Annabelle Geiger took two of the team's five shots, putting both on goal.

The loss drops the Petrels to 4-9 on the season, 1-4 in SAA play. They'll now get set for their final home game of the season Sunday afternoon. They'll welcome SAA opponent Hendrix to Salamone Field at noon.
