Men's Lacrosse Drops SAA Contest at Sewanee, 23-1

Box Score

The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team had a tough day in Sewanee, Tenn., Saturday, falling to the home-standing Sewanee Tigers, 23-1.

The Stormy Petrels fell behind 5-0 in the first quarter, then were outscored 10-1 in the second for a deficit of 15-1 at halftime. The lone Petrel goal came from senior attackman Arness Holsey at the 9:27 mark of the second quarter off an assist from freshman midfielder Brayden Simpson.

In the second half, the Petrels played better defensively, but it was already too late. The Tigers outscored Oglethorpe 8-0 in the half and cruised to the victory.

Senior goalie Cooper O'Brien did all he could, making 20 saves and scooping four ground balls. However, the Sewanee onslaught proved to be too much.

The Petrels were outshot 71-14, including 43-9 on goal. They turned the ball over 29 times to 17 for Sewanee, and were successful on 13-of-29 clear attempts to a perfect 18-of-18 from Sewanee.

The Petrels drop to 3-7 in all games, 0-2 in SAA play. They'll stay on the road next weekend, as they travel to Conway, Ark., to take on Hendrix at 8 p.m. Eastern time Friday. They'll continue on to Memphis, Tenn., on Sunday to play Rhodes at 2 p.m. Eastern.
