The Oglethorpe women's tennis team suffered a difficult weekend, going 0-2 in SAA play against Centre and Sewanee in a rain-affected weekend.
Rain forced the postponement of the team's match against Agnes Scott and the cancellation of the team's match against Middle Georgia State. However, they did manage to get the Centre match in on Saturday afternoon after multiple rain delays. The team came out flat, though, in the match that was played only to decision. Ingrid Wilcox and Tricia Groover won 8-3 at No. 3 doubles, but Centre got victories over the Nos. 1 and 2 doubles teams to take a 2-1 lead into singles. There, the Colonels picked up three straight sets victories to close out the match, 5-1. The Petrels were up a set in two of the remaining three singles matches.
On Sunday against No. 16 Sewanee (No. 3 in the Atlantic South region), the Petrels were simply overmatched and fell 9-0 despite playing relatively well. JaHaun Freeman-Clark and Katherine Walker played well against the fifth-ranked doubles tandem in the region, but eventually fell, 8-5. Down 3-0 in the match, the Petrels then had to go against three regionally-ranked singles players. Freeman-Clark lost 6-4, 6-1 to the No. 4 player in the region, Caffrey Francis lost 6-1, 6-0 to the region's No. 9 player, and Walker fell 6-1, 6-0 to the 22nd-ranked player in the Atlantic South. Marcail McGranahan, Wilcox and Groover all lost in straight sets, as well.
The Petrels drop to 3-10 on the year, 0-2 in SAA play. They'll have to be ready for their third SAA match in as many days on Monday, when they welcome Berry to the Howell Tennis Courts at 3:30 p.m.
