Box Score On Senior Day for the Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team, they fell behind early and were unable to catch up to visiting Centre, losing 26-6 Saturday on the Oglethorpe Track and Field.
The Stormy Petrels fell behind 4-0 early and 6-1 at the end of the first quarter. The lone Petrel goal in the opening period came from freshman midfielder Brayden Simpson, who finished it off an assist from fellow freshman midfielder Hunter Dutton.
The visiting Colonels outscored the Petrels by the same margin in the second quarter, giving them a 12-2 lead at the halftime break. The lone Oglethorpe goal in the second frame came from sophomore midfielder Matt Hardwick off an assist from freshman attackman Zach Pagan.
The Petrels tallied another goal in the third when Dutton found the net with 7:04 remaining, but Centre scored nine more goals in the period and took a 21-3 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth, the Petrels tallied three times. Junior midfielder Jake Godwin scored off an assist from Simpson, freshman defenseman Eric Seymour tallied an unassisted goal coming forward from the back, and Simpson scored his second goal of the game.
Simpson led the team with two goals and an assist on nine shots. Senior goalie Cooper O'Brien scooped four ground balls and made 10 saves on the afternoon, causing three turnovers in the process.
The Petrels fall to 1-9 (3-10 in all games) and 0-5 in SAA play. They'll take on Millsaps at the Oglethorpe Track and Field on Friday at 7 p.m.
