Box Score The Oglethorpe women's soccer team suffered a tough afternoon in the rain at the Oglethorpe Track and Field on Friday, as the visiting Rhodes Lynx came in and defeated the Stormy Petrels 7-0. Rhodes scored three in the first half and four in the second to give the game its final tally. The result dropped the Petrels to 1-7 overall and 0-3 in SAA play.
Rhodes jumped on the Petrels early with a trio of goals over a 10-minute stretch in the first half. They opened the scoring in the game's 26th minute, then continued with additional markers in the 32nd and 36th minutes. The Lynx continued to extend their lead in the second half with goals in the 58th and 63rd minutes. They added two more in the final five minutes on a penalty kick and a goal off a rebound.
The Lynx outshot the Petrels 14-1 on goal and took eight corner kicks to Oglethorpe's none. Sophomore goalkeeper Tabitha Floyd was able to make seven saves on the afternoon, but with her goal under siege, the Petrels couldn't get much going on the attack.
"This was obviously a tough game for us," said Oglethorpe head coach Wes Anania. "Not much went right today for us, but give tons of credit to Rhodes for that. They're a very good team. We'll look to rebound Sunday on Senior Day."
The Petrels will take on Hendrix at noon Sunday on the Oglethorpe Track and Field. They'll also celebrate Senior Day before the game, with forward Beatrice Menjor being honored for her contributions to the Oglethorpe women's soccer program.
