Box Score The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team delved into the bulk of their SAA season Saturday with a loss to the Sewanee Tigers in Sewanee, Tennessee. The Stormy Petrels fell behind early in the contest and never were able to catch up, falling to the homestanding Tigers 27-1. The result dropped the Stormy Petrels to 0-10 on the season overall, 0-2 in conference play.
The Tigers got off to a fast start, netting seven goals over the course of the first period. They followed with 12 more in the second quarter, building an 18-0 advantage headed into the halftime break.
In the second half, the Petrels got a goal from freshman middie Nathaniel Gillespie with 10:13 left in the third period. However, Sewanee was able to continue their run from the opening half, scoring the final eight goals of the game from that point and cruising to the 26-goal victory.
"Unfortunately, we really just didn't have it today," said Oglethorpe head coach Nathan Young. "We are shorthanded right now, but this was a tough game from the get-go. We'll look to bounce back with a couple more road games next weekend."
The Petrels will next hit the field on Friday, when they travel to Memphis, Tennessee, to take on Rhodes at 7 p.m. Eastern. After that, they'll continue west to Conway, Arkansas, to take on Hendrix on Sunday, March 27, at 1 p.m. Eastern.
