Second Half Goal Lifts Visiting Bryan over Women's Soccer, 2-1

Box Score

The Oglethorpe women's soccer team led early in their non-conference tilt with Bryan Wednesday evening at Salamone Field, but the visiting Lions came back with a pair of goals, one on each side of halftime, to turn the game around and defeat the Stormy Petrels 2-1. The loss dropped Oglethorpe to 0-4 on the season.

The Petrels got off to an excellent start, as junior midfielder Caitlin Tabilog took a pass from fellow junior midfielder Celina Kassam on the right side of the field and then dribbled past several Bryan defenders and finished  into the right-hand side of the goal to give her team a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute.

The Petrels continued to get chances for the rest of the first half, as they fired a total of five shots in the period and put three of them on target, including the goal. However, the Lions started to ramp up the pressure on the Petrels, firing 10 shots over the course of the first half and putting four of them on target.

They scored the equalizing goal in the 23rd minute on a long shot from outside the box. With the score 1-1 at halftime, Bryan took control in the second, outshooting Oglethorpe 19-0 in the period. They took a 2-1 lead in the 63rd minute and closed Oglethorpe down defensively from there.

They outshot Oglethorpe 29-5 over the course of the game, including 9-3 on goal. They also took four corner kicks to Oglethorpe's two.

Individually, sophomore goalkeeper Tabitha Floyd made seven saves for the game while freshman midfielder Chase Cabana fired two shots and put both on goal.

"We played well in the first half and got the lead," said Oglethorpe head coach Wes Anania, "but they wore us down in the second half. We'll look to regroup and get ready for our next game against Judson."

The Petrels will take on Judson Tuesday evening in Marion, Alabama, in their final non-conference game before entering SAA play.
