The sixth-seeded Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team fell to No. 3 seed Sewanee 20-11 at Puett Field in Sewanee, Tennessee, Friday night, bringing the Stormy Petrels' season to a close with a 6-12 overall record. In a rematch of a game that Sewanee won 16-3 in the regular season, though, the Petrels proved game opponents for the homestanding Tigers, finding themselves within three goals at halftime and pulling to within a single tally, 10-9, with 25:16 remaining in the contest. Sewanee pulled away from there, though, extending their lead out to the final 9-goal margin.

Down 4-0 after the game's opening eight minutes, the Petrels responded with three consecutive goals. Freshman attacker Elena Gierok tallied at the 21:28 mark of the first half off an assist from senior midfielder Juliana Altman, and she was followed at the 20:40 mark by sophomore midfielder Madison Goss, and at the 18:48 mark by senior midfielder Michelle Shramek, making it 4-3. Sewanee and Oglethorpe traded goals, with freshman attacker Samantha Chap scoring at the 15:04 mark, but the Tigers tallied twice more to extend their advantage to 7-4. Consecutive Oglethorpe free position goals from Chap and Shramek brought the Petrels back to within a single goal, 7-6, but Sewanee scored three of the next four before halftime to make it a 3-goal game with 30 minutes left. The lone Oglethorpe marker during that time came from Shramek.

Down 10-7 at the half, the Petrels responded with back-to-back goals to start the second period. Altman finished a pass from Gierok to make it 10-8, and Altman buried an unassisted goal at the 25:16 mark to make it 10-9. However, the Tigers started to pull away from there. Six consecutive goals for the home side gave them a 16-9 lead with 16:59 remaining. Freshman attacker Glenn Kaiser finished a feed from freshman attacher Jill Czaplinski with 15:09 left to make it 16-10, but Kaiser soon had to leave the game with her second yellow card, putting the Petrels further behind the eight-ball. Shramek finished the Oglethorpe scoring with a free position shot at the 1:47 mark, but the game was already decided by that point.

Shramek finished her career with a hat trick in her final game. She also led the team with 7 draw controls on the evening. The team also got 2 goals each from Chap, Altman and Goss, with Altman playing her final collegiate game, as well. She grabbed 3 ground balls and caused a pair of Sewanee turnovers. Freshman defender Danielle Fuller led the team in ground balls with 6, while both she and fellow freshman defender Dreshona Mapps-Whitmore caused a team-high 3 Tiger turnovers.

The Petrels finished even with Sewanee on draw controls, as the two teams secured 16-apiece. Oglethorpe committed 33 turnovers, but also secured 28 takeaways on the evening. Sewanee outshot Oglethorpe 40-27, including 29-19 on goal.
