Men's Lacrosse Drops Final Home Contest of Season to Sewanee, 23-4

The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team lost an SAA matchup Sunday at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, falling to the visiting Sewanee Tigers 23-4. The result dropped the team to 1-14 on the season overall and 0-5 in SAA play.
 
The Tigers dominated the Petrels in the first 10 minutes of the game, going on a 5-0 run. Sophomore midfielder Tyler Stridiron ended the Tigers' opening stretch with a goal off an assist from sophomore attackman Nathaniel Gillespie at the 5:11 mark of the first period, making the score 5-1. The Tigers reacted with another run that extended into the second period.

Sewanee continued with three more consecutive tallies, bringing the score to 11-1 with 11:26 remaining in the half.  Gillespie ended the Tigers run with an unassisted goal, as well as a goal off an assist from freshman defenseman Ryan Kozlowski, making the score 11-3 with 3:45 remaining until halftime. The Petrels went into the break down 16-3.
 
The Tigers continued to power through the Petrels' defense as Oglethorpe went scoreless in the third period. Sewanee tallied 13 consecutive goals to make the score 23-3. Gillespie finished off a hat trick with 1:54 left in the game, making the final score 23-4.
 
Gillespie led the Petrels with the 3 goals and 2 ground balls. Stridiron tallied a goal while also securing 4 ground balls and forcing 2 turnovers. Sophomore defenseman Andrew Kwapil also finished with 4 ground balls and 2 caused turnovers.

The Petrels will travel to Alabama to take on Birmingham-Southern in their final game of the regular season Friday at 7 p.m. Eastern.
