The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team found themselves matched up against a tough Huntingdon Hawks side Wednesday night at the Oglethorpe Track and Field. They hung in for awhile but couldn't score enough to stay in the contest in a 17-4 defeat. The loss dropped the Stormy Petrels to an even 4-4 on the season.

Huntingdon shut the Petrels out in the first half while scoring three goals in each of the first two quarters. Oglethorpe tallied a goal in the third quarter when freshman attackman Thomas Clark took a feed from sophomore middie Brian Green and finished past the Huntingdon goalie, making the score 6-1 with 12:20 left in the third. The Hawks ran off seven straight to finish the quarter, though, taking a 13-1 lead and all but putting the game away with 15 minutes left.

Junior attackman Cameron Ritter, freshman attackman Andrew Collins, and Clark all found the net in the fourth quarter. Huntingdon scored four more, though, for their final 14-goal margin.

Clark led Oglethorpe with a pair of goals, taking 13 shots and putting six on target. Meanwhile, freshman goalie Addison Irwin stopped 20 Huntingdon shots.

The visitors outshot Oglethorpe 37-21 on goal while winning 15 of 25 faceoffs. 

The Petrels will be back in action on Saturday when they welcome Sewanee to the Oglethorpe Track and Field for their SAA opener. Faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
