Late goal sinks Petrels on senior day

Box Score

ATLANTA—A goal in the last five minutes of play sent Oglethorpe women's soccer to an unhappy 1-0 defeat Friday night against Millsaps. Oglethorpe and Millsaps played a relatively even game the whole way through until Major Camille Blanchard scored the game's only goal in the 86th minute.

Prior to the game, the Stormy Petrels honored Alexis Hutson-Hamric, Lauren Kirby, Sara McDade, Nikki Wells and Devyn Canty for their careers in the yellow and black.

Oglethorpe had plenty of chances of their own, including several good ones in the last third of the match. This translated to eight total shots and six shots on goal, alongside six corner kicks.

Freshmen Mackenzie Jones and Jade Anderson accounted for two shots apiece, the only Petrels with multiple in that column. Hutson-Hamric produced a great effort tending the net with six saves and only the one goal allowed.

Oglethorpe returns home Sunday for another Southern Athletic Association matchup, this time against Birmingham Southern in the Petrels' penultimate home game. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. with a men's game to follow.
