Women's soccer falls 1-0 for second straight time

Box Score

ATLANTA—Another goal in the last 20 minutes of play sent the Oglethorpe women's soccer team to its second straight 1-0 loss Sunday. Birmingham Southern picked up the win with a goal from Sophie Smith in the 73rd minute.

Oglethorpe trailed the total shot count by a wide margin but still produced plenty of chances. Nearly all of them would have given the Stormy Petrels the lead as Birmingham Southern did not break the scoreless deadlock until the closing minutes. It marked the second straight time Oglethorpe surrendered the eventual game-winning goal late in the game after Millsaps pulled out a 1-0 win Friday night with a goal in the final five minutes.

Sophomore goalkeeper Haley Lowell had another great game with eight saves. Included among them was one in the first half that required a nice diving effort and one in the second half from close range.

Oglethorpe returns to action Monday night for an exhibition game against Oxford of Emory before hosting Berry Saturday at 5 p.m. in the regular season finale.
