Petrels pick up another dominating win at Caltech

Box Score

PASADENA, Calif.—Dimetri Chambers, Lane Foster, Will Koch and Jack Murrah combined for 66 points in Oglethorpe's 81-65 win over Caltech Thursday night.

Chambers scored 20 for his second 20-point game in as many outings this season while Foster added 19, Koch 15 and Murrah 12. Chambers and Murrah both were 3-for-5 from three as the Stormy Petrels once again benefitted from a strong start in their second runaway win to start the season.

They led 9-2 after four minutes, 16-5 after eight minutes, 22-10 after 10 minutes and 35-13 through 13 and a half minutes. This helped the Petrels build their second straight 20-point first-half lead this season.

Caltech managed to cut the deficit to 11 several times in the first 10 minutes of the second half and even had it down to seven (53-46) with 13:40 to go. However, a Koch dunk and Murrah made 3-pointer helped Oglethorpe extend its lead back out to double figures where they would lead the rest of the way. Oglethorpe even led by as many as 21 late in the second half.

"I thought we played extremely well the first 15 minutes of the game," Head Coach Philip Ponder said. "Our defense and energy was off the charts, and we were creating turnovers and offense off of those turnovers. Credit Caltech, who did a great job battling back. We lost of couple of guys for the game to injury, but we had some other guys step up and help withstand their run. This was a really good win against a quality team after a long day of travel."

Eight Petrels made their way into the scoring column, including Uba Ezigbo who finished with eight points and 12 rebounds. Sone padded his stat sheet with three points, four rebounds, seven assists and 10 steals. Foster's 19 points came alongside five assists and three rebounds.

Up next, Oglethorpe stays out west and heads to Colorado College for a 6 p.m. EST tip-off on Saturday. The Petrels will be home again on Saturday, Nov. 27, against Maryville.
