Box Score Lane Foster needed 24 points to reach the 1,000-point club, and he scored exactly that in the Oglethorpe men's basketball team's 91-78 loss to Bob Jones Friday night.
Foster led the Stormy Petrels with 24 points, followed closely by Uba Ezigbo with 19 points and Jack Murrah with 15 points.
"I know Lane would have preferred to get his 1,000th point in a win, but that is still a great accomplishment, and I'm proud of him," said Head Coach Philip Ponder. "He is just the 32nd player in Oglethorpe history to reach that milestone, and to do it from the point guard position is even more impressive."
The first half of the game was close as the teams stayed neck and neck with 10 lead changes. However, Bob Jones took the upper hand in the last three minutes of the first half to extend their three-point lead to 14 making the score 45-34 at halftime.
In the second half, the Petrels got it back to within eight points, but Bob Jones again dominated late in the game.
"Our defense has been solid all year, but we just didn't get the job done on the defensive side of the court tonight," Ponder added. "You can't expect to be successful when you give up 91 points."
This defeat brought Oglethorpe's record to 5-3 for the season. The Petrels will have a week and a half off before returning to play on Wednesday, Dec. 29, when they will face Spalding University at home. The game is set to start at 3 p.m.
