Box Score ATLANTA— After nearly two weeks off, the Oglethorpe men's basketball team returned to play on Wednesday afternoon. The Petrels defeated Spalding University with a final score of 89-61.
Dimetri Chambers led the Stormy Petrels in scoring with 33 points. This is Chambers' ninth career game scoring 30 or more.
The first half of the game was close with a halftime score of 35-31. Oglethorpe pushed further ahead in the first three minutes of the second half with a seven-point run. The Petrels dominated the second half 54-30.
"I think we came out a little sluggish in the first half, but really picked it up in the second half," said Head Coach Philip Ponder. "Coming off a long break may have had something to do with that, but I liked our intensity in the second half and hope we can build off of that heading into tomorrow.
Behind Chambers' 33 points, which came on 14-of-26 shooting, Lane Foster chipped in with 11 points and seven assists alongside only one turnover. Ten other Petrels entered the scoring column, including Uba Ezigbo and Toju Etiwe who both scored eight. Will Koch scored seven points and added seven rebounds.
Oglethorpe will take the court at home again Thursday against Piedmont. The game is set to start at 4 p.m.
