Box Score The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team fell to the Greensboro Pride 14-5 Saturday afternoon in their season opener at the Oglethorpe Track and Field. The Stormy Petrels remained in the contest into the third quarter, scoring a couple goals in a row to pull to within 8-4 at the 6:43 mark. However, Greensboro pulled away by outscoring the Petrels 6-1 from that point.
The Pride tallied the first three goals in a row and outscored the home side 4-1 over the first quarter. Oglethorpe's lone goal came from sophomore attackman Max Brand off an assist from fellow sophomore attackman Jazz Washington. Washington scored an unassisted goal at the 12:31 mark of the second quarter to pull the Petrels to within 4-2, and they trailed 5-2 at the break.
However, Greensboro took control of the game with three straight goals over the opening eight minutes of the third quarter. Sophomore middie Jeremiah James scored a goal with 6:45 left and then sophomore attackman Quade Bedgood and sophomore middie Hinton Chandler combined to pull the Petrels to within four goals just seconds later. Brand finished a pass from Washington at 3:54 of the third quarter to make it 9-5. However, the Pride scored the final five goals of the game to secure the win.
Brand led the Petrels with two goals, while Washington did so with two assists. Junior goalie Addison Irwin recorded 14 saves on the afternoon.
The Petrels will be back in action next Saturday when they travel to Virginia to take on Averett at noon.
