The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team traveled to Alabama Saturday afternoon to take on Montevallo, an NCAA Division II institution, and fell 17-6. The loss dropped the Stormy Petrels to 1-1 on the season.

The homestanding Falcons jumped on the Petrels 11-2 in the opening half of play. Oglethorpe got goals from freshman attacker Ally Moir at the 14:56 mark and freshman midfielder Kaitlynn Alford with 8:53 to go in the half, but Montevallo controlled the play to take a commanding 9-goal lead.

The Falcons built their lead to as many as 14 goals, 16-2, with 15:50 left in the game. The Petrels scored 4 of the final 5 goals of the contest, though. Moir bagged a couple more to give herself a hat trick, while freshman midfielder Sydney Trammell and sophomore midfielder Kendall White also added tallies of their own. 

Montevallo outshot Oglethorpe 25-9 on goal while securing 19 draw controls to Oglethorpe's five. 

The Petrels get back to action Tuesday when they step back into Division III play and head up to Demorest to take on in-state opponent Piedmont at 7 p.m.
