Women's soccer blanked by Rhodes 3-0

Box Score

The Oglethorpe women's soccer team hung tough against Rhodes Friday afternoon at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, but the visitors prevailed 3-0 in the end. The defeat dropped the Stormy Petrels to 0-2 on the young season, with the same mark in SAA play.

The Petrels got a couple big saves from freshman goalkeeper Haley Lowell in the early-going. She parried a Rhodes penalty kick in the 16th minute and made an impressive save on a shot from distance just minutes later, keeping the game scoreless. Rhodes broke through in the 25th minute, though, and maintained that advantage into the halftime break.

In the second half, Rhodes tallied in the 60th minute to double their advantage. They quickly gave up the third goal, as the visitors found the back of the net again less than 90 seconds later.

The Petrels made nine saves total, with Lowell recording six and junior Alexis Hutson-Hamric tallying a couple. Rhodes outshot Oglethorpe 22-3, including a 12-1 mark in shots on goal.

Oglethorpe will be back in action Sunday morning from the Oglethorpe Track and Field, taking on the Hendrix Warriors at 11 a.m. They'll celebrate Senior Day prior to the game.
