Box Score The Oglethorpe women's soccer team fell to the visiting Hendrix Warriors Sunday at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, giving up a goal in the final 10 minutes to fall 1-0 in rainy conditions. The defeat dropped the Stormy Petrels to 0-3 on the season.
The game started in a heavy downpour, which affected play over the course of the first half. In the second half, Oglethorpe picked up the attack and got several excellent chances on goal. The Petrels fired six shots over the half and put four of them on goal. Oglethorpe's best chance came in the 73rd minute when Hendrix goalkeeper Anna Claire Lewis made a sprawling save on a shot from sophomore forward Kirsten Brown, keeping the contest scoreless.
It remained that way until the 84th minute, when freshman Oglethorpe goalkeeper Haley Lowell saved a knuckling shot off the crossbar, but the ball bounced back into play and right into the path of onrushing attacker who put the ball into the net.
The Petrels didn't get a serious scoring chance after that, and Hendrix hung on for the one-goal win.
Lowell totaled seven saves for the Petrels for the game while Brown fired four shots and put two of them on target.
The Petrels will be back in action from Mount Berry Saturday. They'll take on Berry at 5 p.m.
