Box Score The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team fought valiantly Saturday afternoon in Fayetteville, North Carolina, but fell 12-11 to the homestanding Methodist Monarchs to drop to 1-3 on the young season. The Stormy Petrels led by as many as 5 goals in the first half, but the Monarchs mounted a comeback to pull even and then outscored Oglethorpe 2-1 in the fourth quarter after entering the final period tied 10-10.
The Petrels jumped out early, scoring the first 4 goals of the game over the opening 10 minutes. Senior middie Brian Green grabbed a couple of goals during the stretch. After Methodist tallied a couple goals of their own, the Petrels ran off a string of 3 straight bridging into the second quarter. Green joined sophomore attackmen Quade Bedgood and Max Brand on the scoresheet to help the Petrels build a 7-2 lead with 12:56 left in the second quarter. Methodist went on a huge run from there, though, rolling off 5 straight goals to tie the score 7-7 with 2:27 to go until halftime. The Petrels added another goal just before the half to enter the break up 8-7.
The Monarchs took the lead a couple times in the third quarter, but a goal by sophomore attackman Jazz Washington at the 6:36 mark and another one by Bedgood at the 3:05 mark tied the score back up headed to the fourth. Methodist scored twice over the opening seven minutes of the period, giving themselves a 12-10 lead. Green brought the Petrels to within a goal with 2:22 remaining, his fourth marker of the contest, but the visitors were never able to get a shot off in the final two minutes.
The Petrels next head to Berry for their SAA opener Saturday at 1 p.m.
