Box Score The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team closed out their season Sunday with a 19-6 defeat to the Birmingham-Southern Panthers in Birmingham, Alabama. With the loss, the Petrels finish the season 1-8 overall and 0-5 in SAA play.
The Panthers used a run of 13 straight goals in the first half to take control of the game, turning a 3-1 deficit midway through the first quarter into a 14-3 lead at halftime. The Petrels scored three goals in the second half, as sophomore attackman Jazz Washington joined senior middie Brian Green on the scoresheet, but the Panthers scored five more times in the final 30 minutes.
Washington, Green and freshman middie Israel Pendleton-Moore each tallied two goals in the contest, and junior goalie Addison Irwin recorded an impressive 26 saves for the contest.
The Petrels tallied the first two goals of the game in the opening nine minutes of play, with Pendleton-Moore and Green both getting on the scoreboard. When Birmingham-Southern pulled a goal back, the Petrels went back up by a pair after Pendleton-Moore added a man-up goal at the 8:43 mark of the opening quarter.
Birmingham-Southern outshot the Petrels 45-13 on goal and forced 40 Petrel turnovers while committing 20 themselves.
