Women’s lacrosse postseason preview

ATLANTA – The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels have recorded another great season, and are set to enter the Southern Athletic Association tournament after finishing tied for third in the regular season.

Tournament Information

  • Oglethorpe will face No. 4 Centre College on Friday, April 21, at 5 p.m. ET, hosted by Rhodes in Memphis, Tennessee.
  • If Oglethorpe advances, they will face top-seeded Rhodes on Sunday, April 23, at 1 p.m. ET.
  • The final round will be hosted by the highest remaining seed on Sunday, April 30.
  • Oglethorpe lost to Centre 15-13 on the road during the last week of March in the only meeting between the two teams this season. Oglethorpe led 12-9 in the fourth quarter but Centre closed the game on a 6-1 run.

Season Review

  • Oglethorpe posted a 10-5 overall, 3-3 in the SAA. This was good for a three-way tie for third, but the Petrels were seeded fifth by tie-breaking procedures.
  • The Petrels defeated SAA foes Hendrix, Sewanee and Birmingham Southern.
  • The team opened conference play with an 18-5 victory against Hendrix.
  • Oglethorpe's biggest wins included their season opener 23-1 victory over Truett McConnell, and a 21-0 win against Brenau.
  • Combined, the Petrels recorded 230 goals, 320 points, 129 caused turnovers, recovered 273 ground balls, and won 231 draw controls.

Individual Highlights

  • Ally Moir led in scoring and is ranked 10th in the Southern Athletic Association for goals, recording 41. Moir also led the Petrels in assists, ranked seventh in the SAA with a total of 23. She is also ranked sixth for total points and fourth for points per game.
  • Tori Perez led Oglethorpe to hold the highest save percentage in the Southern Athletic Association, and the highest number of saves at 155. Perez recorded one of only two shutout games among SAA members this season. She posted a .480 save percentage.
  • Sydney Trammell is ranked 10th in the SAA for assists, totaling 17. She also won 49 draw controls and made 27 goals.
  • Kendall White is ranked ninth in the conference for shots per game. She recorded 39 goals and 12 assists this season.
  • Freshman Anna Ramsden also recorded 39 goals, in addition to eight assists.
  • Kaitlynn Alford won 38 draw controls, made 34 goals and five assists, and recovered 29 ground balls.
  • Makenna Bowens won 50 draw controls, made 28 goals and 11 assists, and recovered 28 ground balls.
  • Amber Fuentes recovered 30 ground balls and caused 15 turnovers.
  • Savannah Freeman caused 16 turnovers.
