BIRMINGHAM, Ala.– The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels made significant strides in their first meet of the new year, the Emory CrossPlex Showdown Sunday. 

Men's Results 

• Zachary Benner, Ashton Deriso, Stephen Graffius and Beck James combined for a winning finish and time of 10:50 in the distance medley relay.  
• Rainey Morris took runner-up in the high jump with a career-high final mark of 1.90 meters, setting the Oglethorpe record in the event. 
• Deriso finished sixth in the mile with a time of 4:24. 
• Ugohnofure Awarieta placed ninth in the 400 meters with a time of 54.60. 
• Benner also took 12th in the mile, just behind Deriso, with a time of 4:31. 
• James placed 16th in the mile with a time of 4:35. 
• Anthony Bonds finished 31st in the 200 meters with a time of 23.91.

Women's Results 

• Evan Thomas placed eighth in the 60 meters with a time of 8.38. She also finished 12th in the 200 meters with a time of 27.23. 
• Riley Michaud finished 23rd in the mile with a time of 5:55. 
• Michaud, Elina Malancea, Alex Swanson and Hannah Rhodes combined for a runner-up finish in the distance medley relay. Their time of 14.28 was more than 30 seconds faster than the third-place team.

Meet Notes 

• Freshmen Evan Thomas, Muledride Belony, Ugohnofure Awarieta, Keyont'e Simmons, and Muhammad Sail Abbs made their track & field debuts. 
• Freshman Charlie Monroe recorded a new personal best in shot put, adding almost a meter to his final mark from the previous meet.
• Fellow Southern Athletic Association members Rhodes and Birmingham Southern also competed.
