ATLANTA—Oglethorpe's Zachary Benner earned Southern Athletic Association track athlete of the week, announced the SAA office Monday afternoon for the week ending March 30.

Benner won the 3000-meter steeplechase at last week's Emory Thrills in the Hills, posting a time of 9:25.45 which was eight seconds ahead of the rest of the field. It was just over one second shy of the Oglethorpe record and saw the junior pick up the weekly track award for the first time in his career.

Benner is now a two-time conference athlete of the week after winning the cross country award in September 2023.

The Stormy Petrels continue the season April 4-5 at the Embry-Riddle Running Elements meet in Daytona Beach, Florida.
