SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels made great marks on their first day of the Southern Athletic Association Track & Field Championships Friday. Zachary Benner highlighted the day with the SAA title in the 3k steeplechase. 

Women's Highlights

• Riley Michaud took runner-up in the 3k steeplechase, earning eight points for the team. Her time of 12:07 set a new personal best.
• Kirsten Wright placed fourth in the long jump with a 5.33m mark. She earned five points, and Malia Melton followed in seventh to earn two points.
• Evan Thomas won the 400m prelim, qualifying for Saturdays final.
• Aubrey Guyden also advanced in her prelim with a fourth-place finish in the 100m, Wright followed in sixth, also qualifying.
• Wright and Thomas also qualified in the 200m, finishing fifth and sixth, respectively.
• Amirah Ali finished eighth in the 100m hurdles preliminaries, qualifying for Saturday's final.

Men's Highlights

• Benner won the 3k steeplechase with a time of 9:24.08 to earn 10 points. He set the new school record by less than a second.
• Benner also took runner-up in the 10k with a time of 33:21. He earned eight points for the Petrels. Anthony Arredondo followed in sixth to earn two points.
• Jordan McQueen took runner-up in the long jump with a 6.68m mark, earning eight points and setting a new PR.
• Anthony Bonds qualified in the 100m, and Tristan Arey qualified in the 400m hurdles.
