DANVILLE, Ky.—Zachary Benner picked up the SAA title in the 5k Friday night before Evan Thomas picked up the SAA title in the 400 meters Saturday afternoon as the pair led their respective sides at the Southern Athletic Association Indoor Championships this weekend.
The event, hosted by Centre, took place at Lisa H. Owens Fieldhouse. The Stormy Petrels broke another handful of records on the second day and put a grand total of 15 on the all-conference team. The men took fourth overall with 51 points while the women took fifth with 60 points.

Women's Highlights
- Thomas had the top mark of the day for Oglethorpe's women. She ran a blistering 58.33 in the 400 meters to take the Oglethorpe record and SAA Indoor Championships record.
- Keri Edwards matched Thomas with an all-conference and Oglethorpe record-breaking performance, this one in the triple jump. She posted 11.74 meters which was 0.34 meters better than the previous mark set by Arielle Shaw in 2016.
- Amirah Ali followed Edwards in the triple jump, placing fourth to pick up five points.
- Kirsten Wright posted a pair of great finishes in the 60 meters and 200 meters. She took fourth in both races, 7.82 in the 60 and 26.14 in the 200.
- Kirsten Rose ran to sixth in the 800 meters in 2:23 and Hannah Rhodes ran to eighth in the 3k in an Oglethorpe record 10:40.
- Rounding out the championship event, H. Wright, K. Wright, Rose and Thomas broke the Oglethorpe record in the 4x400 meter relay, clocking 4:11 to take fourth overall.
Men's Highlights
- (Friday) Benner had the top result of the first day, breaking his own SAA Championships record in the 5k by four seconds. He ran 15:13 to secure 10 points from the top spot.
- Zeno Goss earned all-conference second team in the 400 meters. He posted a time of 49.65 with Philmon Laudat following close behind in 49.99 to take fourth.
- Goss and Laudat combined with Brandon Large and Noah Harmon on Oglethorpe's 4x400 meter relay team, earning all-conference second team. They narrowly grabbed the Petrel record in 3:27 to take runner-up.
- Goss also ran a great 800 meters. He posted a 1:57 to take third overall, good for honorable mention and six points toward the team score.
- Another record to drop came from Jordan McQueen who secured a third-place finish in the triple jump with a new program best 13.72-meter jump. His effort earned all-conference honorable mention while Charlie Monroe also snagged a point in the event, taking eighth.
On Day One
- Benner had the top result of the first day, breaking his own SAA Championships record in the 5k by four seconds. He ran 15:13 to secure 10 points from the top spot.
- Jordan McQueen had his second straight PR in the long jump as he leapt 6.93 meters to top his own Oglethorpe record set three years ago. It helped him earn all-conference honorable mention with a third-place finish.
- Kirsten Rose, Evan Thomas, Allyssa Hearn and Hannah Rhodes finished the first day on a high note for the women. In an Oglethorpe record time of 12:45, they earned third overall and a spot on the All-Conference team in the distance medley relay.
- Hailey Wright was the top point-getter on day one for the women. She earned fifth in both the long jump and high jump with marks of 5.38 meters and 1.50 meters, the former a PR and Oglethorpe record.
- Keri Edwards also nabbed a huge PR in the long jump on the first day, finishing right behind Wright in sixth with a mark of 5.32 meters.
- Loni Gipson matched Wright in the high jump with a 1.50-meter jump. It was a PR and good for three and a half points for the Petrels.
- Demetrius Moore, Brandon Large, Noah Harmon and Jason Bredemann also scored a point for the Petrels in the DMR.
Up Next
Oglethorpe will compete one more time at the end of next week in a final qualifier for the NCAA Indoor Championships. Then, outdoor season starts with the Berry Victor Icebreaker on Saturday, March 7.
