ATLANTA- Oglethorpe freshman Gannon Johnson has been awarded the Southern Athletic Association offensive athlete of the week award after a seven-goal game where he scored the final two in a 14-12 victory for the Stormy Petrels.
On Saturday, Johnson scored his first five goals to lead the Petrels to a 12-12 deadlock with LaGrange College. Johnson then took control of the chippy match after he scored two goals in the last 70 seconds of regulation, restoring Oglethorpe's lead and securing the 14-12 victory bringing their second win of the season.
Johnson is currently in the top 10 for every offensive statistic in the SAA and sits at third for goals per game and fourth for both shots per game and points per game. He also leads the Petrels in goals and assists in the season with 20 goals and eight assists.
Johnson and the Petrels will take on Alfred State College at home on Friday, March 13, at 7 p.m.
