Box Score The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team shut out the visiting Brevard Tornados in the second half Friday night en route to a 10-3 victory, earning their first win of the season and head coach Kyle Morris the first victory of his career.
Senior middie Brian Green got the scoring started for the Stormy Petrels less than 20 seconds into the game, but Brevard finished the first quarter up 2-1 and took a 3-1 lead early in the second quarter. Oglethorpe responded by completely shutting the Tornados down the rest of the half, though, and got goals from sophomore attackmen Jazz Washington and Quade Bedgood to equalize the score at 3-3 going into halftime.
The Petrel defensive unite continued to blank Brevard in the second half, not allowing a single goal over the final 30 minutes. In fact, they held the Tornados goalless for the final 43:55 of the contest.
Bedgood tallied a pair of goals in the third quarter, one of them off an assist from Washington, and Green scored one off a feed from sophomore middie Hinton Chandler. Sophomore middie Jeremiah James scored one of his own, as well, while Washington and sophomore attackman Max Brand both scored in the fourth quarter.
Bedgood finished with 3 goals to lead the team, while Chandler collected seven ground balls and caused three Brevard turnovers. Sophomore defenseman Zach Brown also caused three turnovers, and junior goalie Addison Irwin stopped 16 shots.
The Petrels outshot Brevard 25-19 on goal and 46-32 overall. They forced 28 Tornado turnovers and scooped 31 ground balls. In addition, the Petrels were successful on 22 of 24 clear attempts.
Oglethorpe now head out on the road for three straight games, starting with a trip to Fayetteville, North Carolina, to take on Methodist Saturday, March 6, at 1 p.m.
