Box Score ATLANTA—Lane Foster became the Oglethorpe men's basketball program's all-time assist leader with six assists in the Stormy Petrel's second straight Southern Athletic Association win. After only a one-point lead at halftime, the Petrels dominated the second half to defeat Sewanee 74-60.
Foster, who recently reached the 1,000 career point milestone, scored 15 in the win after setting the record early in the first half. He broke the previous mark of 402 career assists held by Cornell Longino. Foster now is up to 407 career assists.
"Congratulations to Lane on setting the all-time assist record," said Head Coach Philip Ponder. "Assists are the ultimate form of unselfish basketball, and it has been a pleasure coaching him these past several years."
Dimetri Chambers led Oglethorpe in scoring with 26 points, serving as his 33rd career game scoring 20 points or more.
The Stormy Petrels immediately started the game with a 9-0 run. Sewanee responded and the two teams went back and forth throughout the first half. By halftime, Oglethorpe led by only one point with the score at 32-31.
In the second half, two 6-0 runs ultimately allowed Oglethorpe to push ahead by double digits. The Petrels kept this momentum going and were in command for the rest of the game.
"Any time you can get a win when you don't have your best offensive game, that's a good thing," Ponder added of the team's effort. "I thought we executed our defensive game plan pretty well for the most part. We held them to their season low in points and their season low in field goal percentage. Our defense won us the game tonight."
Oglethorpe will remain at home for their next game on Sunday afternoon against Centre. The game is set to start at 2 p.m. after it was pushed up one hour due to incoming inclement weather.
